The ASU Dixie Devils
By special invitation, Arizona Musicfest debuts in Sun City with a special Jazz concert and dinner!
Arizona Musicfest began in Carefree nineteen years ago, and over time, expanded to venues in Scottsdale. Now, music lovers in Sun City will experience the “Carnegie Hall quality music” of Arizona Musicfest with Dixieland Extravaganza featuring The ASU Dixie Devils, led by Sam Pilafian. Pilafian is an award-winning Professor of Music at Arizona State University and a founding member of the internationally renowned Empire Brass Quintet. He is also a composer/arranger for some of the biggest, brightest brass bands in the country, plus the New York Philharmonic. The ASU Dixie Devils is a traditional jazz ensemble that specializes in playing pure Dixieland music and early jazz. Their “front line” is hotter than August in Arizona!
The evening’s entertainment starts with a 4:00pm dinner by one of Sun City’s favorite caterers. Then, at 5:00pm, the swinging sound begins! It’s a non-stop, 55-minute extravaganza of the music that everyone recognizes and loves in an acoustically superb, and comfortable, setting.
“Jazz music is down-home and it’s sophisticated. The feeling of jazz is like the feeling you get going into your favorite grandmother’s house.” ~ Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center
“We’re so excited to bring the fine music of Arizona Musicfest to our friends in Sun City!” ~ Lynn Bowers, Managing Director
